Being creative is a great outlet for those of us at home most of our time these days. As we move into a wonderful Fall Season, it’s a great way to change your space by adding some new colors and textures throughout your home. I did a recent home style update for a client and added some touches of Autumn in front of her fireplace. To stay within budget, I found some firewood and a galvanized tin she used from her wedding that were just sitting in her garage. I simply added a blanket and some faux pumpkins to spruce up the look and VOILA! A beautiful focal point for her living room emerged. It’s simple but perfect for the room, season and budget. Be creative and take your kids out for a walk to gather logs, leaves, pinecones, etc. and find some baskets to put them in around the house. Using real pumpkins is also super simple for updating your front on any budget. So let’s “Fall” into some home decor and enjoy updating your space!
DIY Project with Dining Room Chairs
DIY projects can be used for staging your home to both sell and to love. Being open to turning trash in to treasure can sometimes save the bank account and give you a rewarding product at the end. For my latest DIY project, I worked on five FREE chairs I found outside of a pawn shop while driving to my parent’s house. I pulled over and checked to see if the bones were sturdy, loaded them in my SUV and drove away. I chose to use these chairs for my staging inventory as I just so happen to have a cute white table with no chairs. My next steps are shown below so you can see the paint, the chairs and the after pics. Most of my investment in these chairs were time but I did have to buy some chalk paint (with prep for the paint) for $28, a pre-cut spool of fabric from the same store for $5 dollars and then some prefab cushions from Walmart for $3/chair. I scrubbed, bleached and reused the plywood for each seat base and VOILA! “New” Chairs for <$50 for all five chairs. I do recommend using the paint prep before painting as it made a very smooth and workable surface. I chose a medium, slanted paint brush that I had on hand and simply got busy. Chalk pain is great for up-cycling items around your home that may be just a bit dated, or worn out from storage rooms, hand-me-downs from your parents, etc. Think outside the box and that old dresser or that unsightly coffee table can still be salvaged and change the entire look of the room for less than what you would spend on gas and time finding the right replacement.
NOTE: Any chalk paint will work, I just so happened to try Dixie Belle. Cushions and fabric can be purchased from any store that carries them. I do not promote or get perks from any stores from where I shop.
